Shanon Andre

Shanon Andre joins HEP as an American Sign Language instructor.  She has taught at the high school level for the Houston Independent School District, and she has interpreted for the Deaf in the Fort Bend School District.  With her love of language and her experiences working with the Deaf Community, she brings new and exciting skills to HEP.

 

 

Bill Barr

 

      Bill Barr has a B.A. and M.A. in history from the University of Texas and a Master of  Divinity from Yale University.  He is the assistant pastor of a church in Jersey Village who will also be teaching Logic, Latin, and Greek. Mr. Barr has taught in various private schools and colleges. His last position in Tennessee was as a Headmaster and French and Latin teacher at the Cottage Grove School which is a Classical   School  in Cottage Grove, Tennessee.  He is also a writer with the Paris Post  Intelligencer.  Mr. Barr is also an adjunct history professor at San Jacinto College.    

 

Beth Bishop

 

Beth Bishop has a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education (K-12) from Edinboro State College, PA, with minors in both Drawing and Painting.  Upon graduating, she continued her education with 20 hours of  programming, drafting and engineering related classes from NHCC.  Married to Jeff (also an artist) they have three children, one of whom is still attending classes at HEP.  Mrs. Bishop spent eight years in the corporate world with Entex (mapping), S.H. Landes, Inc.(off-shore drilling) and Golemon & Rolfe, Inc.(architecture) performing, managing and teaching Computer Aided Drafting and Design.  Prior to the family’s 14 years of homeschooling, she was involved in the bookkeeping, paint & body, upholstery, and engine rebuilding for their family business British Cars of Houston for eight years and taught high school art for one semester at Trinity Christian Academy in NW Houston.  Still homeschooling and bookkeeping part-time, she is excited about joining the HEP family and returning to her first love of art.

 

Lisa Brown

 

 Mrs. Brown joins the Classical School as the 3rd-6th grade Language Arts Instructor. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in English/Reading and has taught for many years on the secondary level.  She is an enthusiastic teacher and brings a wealth of teaching experience to HEP. 

 

Celia Crotteau

 

    Mrs. Crotteau joins the HEP Staff as an English Teacher. She holds undergraduate degrees in English/journalism and nursing and a graduate degree in Humanities. She worked briefly in advertising before embarking on a nursing career that spanned twenty-five years and taught her the importance of clear, concise oral and written communication. She is currently a professional tutor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake Writing Center. Married to a retired navy officer turned math teacher, Mrs. Crotteau has home schooled both of her teenage daughters. Because her father’s work took her family to many different parts of the world, Celia herself was home schooled, long before home schooling became as acceptable and popular as it is today.       

Charles DuRapau

Degreed in French and Spanish, Mr. DuRapau joins HEP as the Spanish, French, and Portuguese teacher.  Educated in the Houston area, he holds a degree from the University of Houston.  Mr. DuRapau has lived in South America as well as Spain, and speaks five languages.  He also owns his own business that offers language training  services to businesses and corporations.  He travels frequently and brings a youthful enthusiasm to the HEP language program.  He is also a trained TPRS foreign language instructor who will attend the National TPRS convention again during the summer of 2010.

 

Karen Freeman

Degreed in English, Language, and History with a minor in Psychology, and certified by the International Association of Culinary Professionals, Karen Freeman holds the license of Executive Chef in Grande Cuisine from Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa. Her teaching experience includes 7 years of instruction on the collegiate level, 11 years of home schooling and 10 years of private tutoring. While associated with the Office of the Attorney General, she developed curriculum and training formats currently used in public schools and law enforcement departments statewide.   Master Gardener and avid storyteller, Mrs. Freeman and her husband operate Essential Images, a photography company.

Barbara Gorman 

Barbara Gorman home schooled her daughter Tracy, now a college graduate, through high school. Her qualifications as a teacher comes from over 35 years of business experience working as a professional in the computer industry. Her specialty is working with entrepreneurial business people, helping them design, train employees, and implement their specific computer solutions.  She has written her own curriculum for her HEP courses. 

 

Linda Hendrix

   

Linda Hendrix holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering.  She has taught math for HEP for 11 years.  Mrs. Hendrix has had great success in preparing students for College Calculus.  San Jacinto College has been very impressed with the students who come from the HEP classes. Currently, she is teachng Algebra 2, Honors Advanced Mathematics, and Honors/AP Physics.   Mrs. Hendrix has also home schooled her three children, one of whom is a National Merit Scholarship winner for 2006!  Her children have all been actively involved in CHSA Athletics.

Joanne Juren

 
Joanne Juren has over thirty years experience as an educator, with experience as both a teacher and administrator in public schools and college, and seventeen years as a home educator in the homeschooling community. Mrs. Juren has a B.A. in English/History Teacher Education, a M.Ed. in Educational Administration, and a Texas Professional Mid-Management Certificate. She is the founder and National Executive Director of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society, and owner of the HEP Bookstore and Home Education Partnership of Texas.   She was the first winner of the "Home School Best Pioneer" Award by the Calvert School in 2002 and is also a member of "Who's Who of American High School Teachers."  She is a popular speaker and has appeared on national television as an advocate of home schooling.  She has been an active member of Sagemont Church since 1975 and was active in Boy Scouting for 15 years.  The Juren's have two sons, one is an attorney and the other has an MBA and works in one of the family businesses and will attend law school this fall.  Both sons were homeschooled and are now actively involved in politics and both hope to run for public office.  A world traveler, Mrs. Juren brings a wealth of knowledge, excitement, and experience to the classroom.
 

Amy Kremling

 

Mrs. Kemling holds a B.A. in Psychology from U. of Missouri-Columbia and is completing her M.Ed. from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland.  She also holds an AMI Montessori Elementary Certification She hopes to bring her knowledge of Montessori theory and methods to support the curriculum offered at the Classical School.  Mrs. Kremling spent the last 7 years supporting parents of highly gifted and twice-exceptional children (children who are gifted and have learning disabilities) by directing them to appropriate diagnosticians and resources while helping them advocate for their children's educational needs.  She has homeschooled all three of her children, two of which currently attend HEP (the third will attend in the   fall).  The Kremling family has traveled around the world and spent three years living in Thailand, where their son was born, as well as having lived in various States across the U.S.

 

 

Paige McFall  

Paige McFAll joins the HEP this year as one of the Accelerated Math Teachers.  She will also teach Accounting, Consumer Math, and Saxon 8/7.  She holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas A&M University where she Graduated Magna Cum Laude.  She was a National Merit Scholar in high school.  Currently she is a C.P.A. The McFalls homeschool six children.  The family is active in many homeschool activities such as CHSA, ESA, and Reach Co-op.

 

Cheryl Red

Cheryl Red teaches Algebra 1, Life Science, Honors/AP Chemistry 1 and 2, Honors/AP Biology 1, and Accelerated Math.  Mrs. Red has a B.A. in Microbiology, a B.S. in Medical Technology, and a M.S. in Biology.  She has three children and has been homeschooling for thirteen years.  She has taught science classes ranging from Physical Science to Chemistry for the last twelve years to home schooled students in the Clear Lake area.

Sue Rothberg

Sue Rothberg teaches science in  Classical School.  With a B.S. in science and an MBA, Mrs. Rothberg has worked as a meteorologist and business woman.  She is an accomplished musician and often plays the piano at Sagemont Church where her husband is a minister.  The Rothbergs homeschooled their three sons.

 

Elaine Stephens

 

Elaine Stephens has a B.S. and is completing her M.S. from Emery Riddle University in Aerospace Engineering.  She joins the HEP Staff as a science teacher and as the Robotics Team Coach.  She works in the aerospace industry and has an extensive background in science.  For many years, she has worked with schools presenting "space" programs and getting students excited about science and space.  Mrs. Stephens uses a "directive questioning" methodology to help students arrive at answers themselves.  She also has years of experience coaching robotics teams and in fact, her HEP teams have won awards at every competition they have entered.

 

Kay Winemiller

 

Kay Winemiller holds a BA degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education from the University of Arkansas. Kay’s teaching experiences consist of 8 years of teaching in the public school system followed by 7 years in a private Christian school which received accreditation during her tenure there. Kay homeschooled her youngest daughter Alex for 9 years,   Kay is enthusiastic about joining the faculty at HEP. She will be teaching English and History.
