Laura Armer

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Laura Armer has a B.A. in Spanish, a B.S. in Computer Science, and she earned her M.S. in Instructional Technology from the University of Houston – Clear Lake .  Both of her children have attended classes at HEP.  Her daughter is a current student in the Classical School.   Laura is currently an adjunct faculty instructor for the University of Phoenix and Capella University, teaching online education and computer related classes.   Mrs. Armer loves finding ways to combine technology with learning whenever possible!

Bill Barr

      Bill Barr has a B.A. and M.A. in history from the University of Texas and a Master of  

       Divinity from Yale University.  He is the pastor of a church in Jersey Village who will also be

       teaching Latin and Spanish at HEP.  Mr. Barr has taught in various private schools and

       colleges.  His last position in Tennessee was as Headmaster at the Cottage School which is

       a Classical School.

Janan Beckerdite

Janan Beckerdite has a B.A. in Chemistry with minors in Physics and Math from Hardin-Simmons University and a M.S. in Physical Chemistry from Texas A&M University .  She was employed for 10 years in research at Dow Chemical Company before home schooling her two children.  Both children have participated in HEP summer camps and tournament debate, with her daughter continuing in HEP Tournament Speech and Debate.  Over the last four years, Mrs. Beckerdite has participated as a judge at the NCFCA speech & debate tournaments for Region IV.  Last year ('07-'08) she was a co-teacher/coach with Mrs. Juren in the HEP Tournament Speech and Tournament Debate classes.  Mrs. Beckerdite has home schooled for 14 years.

Beth Bishop

 

Beth Bishop has a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education (K-12) from Edinboro State College, PA, with minors in both Drawing and Painting.  Upon graduating, she continued her education with 20 hours of  programming, drafting and engineering related classes from NHCC.  Married to Jeff (also an artist) they have three children, two of whom are still attending classes at HEP.  Mrs. Bishop spent eight years in the corporate world with Entex (mapping), S.H. Landes, Inc.(off-shore drilling) and Golemon & Rolfe, Inc.(architecture) performing, managing and teaching Computer Aided Drafting and Design.  Prior to the family’s 14 years of homeschooling, she was involved in the bookkeeping, paint & body, upholstery, and engine rebuilding for their family business British Cars of Houston for eight years and taught high school art for one semester at Trinity Christian Academy in NW Houston.  Still homeschooling and bookkeeping part-time, she is excited about joining the HEP family and returning to her first love of art.

 

Lisa Brown

Bio coming!  Mrs. Brown joins the Classical School as the 5-8th grade Language Arts Instructor.  Her daughter is an HEP student.

 

Nancy Brown

Nancy Brown has a B.A. in Speech Communications, B.B.A. in Marketing and a minor in English. She has spoken to various organizations in the U. S. in conjunction with her Image Consulting business which she has owned for over twenty years. Nancy has taught at HEP for the last nine years and also wrote the current curriculum for the creative writing/story-telling and advanced speech classes. She home schooled both of her children through high school.  Mrs. Brown will teach camps this summer and then is moving to Fort Worth, Tx.  We will miss her!

Susan Ciancio

       

 Mrs. Ciancio joins the HEP Staff as the Classical School Science Teacher. Susan Ciancio has a BA in Psychology and a BA in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame.  She also has an MA in Liberal Studies from Indiana University .  She has held positions in numerous social services settings, including assistant director of a homeless shelter.  Mrs. Ciancio has taught psychology, sociology, study skills, and computer skills at the community college level, and currently edits educational trainings and materials for the University of Texas .  She is currently homeschooling a son who attends the Classical School .

 

Celia Crotteau

 

 

    Mrs. Crotteau joins the HEP Staff as an English Teacher. She holds undergraduate degrees in English/journalism and nursing and a graduate degree in Humanities. She worked briefly in advertising before embarking on a nursing career that spanned twenty-five years and taught her the importance of clear, concise oral and written communication. She is currently a professional tutor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake Writing Center. Married to a retired navy officer turned math teacher, Mrs. Crotteau has home schooled both of her teenage daughters. Because her father’s work took her family to many different parts of the world, Celia herself was home schooled, long before home schooling became as acceptable and popular as it is today.       

 

 

Karen Freeman

Degreed in English, Language, and History with a minor in Psychology, and certified by the International Association of Culinary Professionals, Karen Freeman holds the license of Executive Chef in Grande Cuisine from Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa. She is the Director of Recipe Development for the Marriott Corporation. Her teaching experience includes 7 years of instruction on the collegiate level, 10 years of home schooling and 10 years of private tutoring. While associated with the Office of the Attorney General, she developed curriculum and training formats currently used in public schools and law enforcement departments statewide.   Master Gardener, avid storyteller and Coach of the Humble High School Inline Hockey team, Mrs. Freeman and her husband home school one son while operating Essential Images, a photography company.

Barbara Gorman 

Barbara Gorman home schooled her daughter Tracy, now a college graduate, through high school. Her qualifications as a teacher comes from over 35 years of business experience working as a professional in the computer industry. Her specialty is working with entrepreneurial business people, helping them design, train employees, and implement their specific computer solutions.  She has written her own curriculum for her HEP courses.  Her business experiences give her a unique perspective on government and economics. 

Terri Hamiter

       Bio coming! Terri joins the HEP Staff as the Classical School 1 & 2 grade history and art teacher.  She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education and currently homeschools her two children.

 

Linda Hendrix

   

Linda Hendrix holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering.  She has taught math for HEP for 10 years.  Mrs. Hendrix has had great success in preparing students for College Calculus.  San Jacinto College has been very impressed with the students who come from the HEP classes.  Mrs. Hendrix has also home schooled her three children, one of whom is a National Merit Scholarship winner for 2006! 

Joanne Juren

 
Joanne Juren has over thirty years experience as an educator, with experience as both a teacher and administrator in public schools and college, and sixteen years as a home educator. Mrs. Juren has a B.A. in English/History Teacher Education, a M.Ed. in Educational Administration, and a Texas Professional Mid-Management Certificate. She is the founder and National Executive Director of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society, and owner of the HEP Bookstore and Home Education Partnership of Texas.   She was the first winner of the "Home School Best Pioneer" Award by the Calvert School in 2002 and is also a member of "Who's Who of American High School Teachers."  She is a popular speaker and has appeared on national television as an advocate of home schooling.  She has been an active member of Sagemont Church since 1975 and was active in Boy Scouting for 15 years.  The Juren's have two sons, one with a law degree (May 2008) and the other with an MBA (May 2008).  Both sons were homeschooled and are now actively involved in politics and both hope to run for public office!

Teddy Levron

Teddy Levron is a professional musician and minister.  With over 30 years experience, he is a wonderful addition to the HEP faculty.  He teaches guitar, keyboarding, and trumpet.  Mr. Levron offers private lessons and conducts the HEP Community Lighthouse Stage Band.  The band was started in 2006 and is currently setting up performance opportunities for the 2008-9 school year.  With a big smile and a friendly disposition, Mr. Levron encourages young musicians and has established a good reputation as a quality music instructor.

Russell Martino

 

Dr. Martino has a BS in psychology with a minor in business administration from U of H; a PhD in nutritional science; plus he is a certified master practitioner in neurolinguistic programming and has completed the highest level of training in NLP, Trainers Training, from two separate NLP teaching organizations. He is the author of 5 Steps To Optimal Health Permanent Weight Loss & Health Improvement Program.  He has been interviewed several hundred times on radio and television programs around the US and hosted his own Health Talk Radio Program in Houston for two years.

 

Kate McFall

A high school senior, Kate McFall has been home-schooled most of her life.  She is very involved in homeschool sports and is a CHSA Basketball player.  She has enjoyed working as a camp counselor at the HEP summer camps.   With a love for children, Miss Kate will be serving as a teacher’s aid in the classical school for 2008-9.  She will also work part-time in the HEP Bookstore.    

Cheryl Red

Cheryl Red teaches Physical Science, Chemistry, Biology, and Super Math.  Mrs. Red has a B.A. in Microbiology, a B.S. in Medical Technology, and a M.S. in Biology.  She has three children and has been homeschooling for thirteen years.  She has taught science classes ranging from Physical Science to Chemistry for the last twelve years to home schooled students in the Clear Lake area.

Sue Rothberg

Mrs. Rothberg re-joins the HEP staff as the Classical School Classical Music Teacher.  More info. coming soon!

Mary Ellen Sauer

Mary Ellen Sauer has an M.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Houston, Clear Lake, and a B.B.A. in Finance.  She taught at Abundant Life Christian School for 2 years before homeschooling her two daughters through high school.  She is a Sunday School teacher at her church and storyteller for the Whitcomb Elementary Good News Club.  Mrs. Sauer joins the HEP Classical School as the History Teacher.

Rebecca Sauer

A home-school student for six years, Rebecca Sauer recently graduated from Thomas Edison State College with a B.A. in Journalism. She has been a high school math tutor and a teaching assistant for college English Composition. With a passion for learning and an enthusiasm for the Classical Method, Miss Sauer joins the Classical School staff as the Latin and Language Arts 1st-2nd teacher, and she will teach English and supervise the Math Workshops.

 

Elaine Stephens

Mrs. Stephens has both a B.S. and M.S. (2008) in Engineering.  She joins the HEP Staff as a science teacher and as the Robotics Team Coach.  More information coming!

Linda Stratigakis

Linda Stratigakis teaches French and Modern Greek.  Linda Stratigakis holds her master’s degree in French and ESL from the University of North Texas.  As a certified teacher, she worked in the public school systems in Texas and Colorado for a total of 17 years. In addition she has taught in a parochial school, language institutes, and at HEP. Trained to meet the needs of gifted and talented students, she has earned her Advanced Placement certificate for students of French. Mrs. Stratigakis is trained in the method called Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS).   She has also lived and taught in Athens, Greece and speaks modern Greek.

Anna Dell Williamson

Anna Dell Williamson has a BA in French from the University of New Mexico, and a MA in Spanish from the University of Houston.  She has 24 years experience teaching public school French and Spanish, plus occasional credit and non-credit courses at the community college level. She has 8 years experience teaching homeschool Spanish.  She is using a method called Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling  (TPRS).  She has had special training in this methodology.  She is a grandmother of five, two of whom are homeschooled students.
