Achiever Newsletter - May, 2008 |
From the Director's Desk by
Joanne E. Juren
Dear Friends,
Sorry for the delay in getting the print copy of our schedule
published this year. But, I wanted to wait until all of
our staff was hired. Well, it now is and I'm excited to
say that 2/3 of our staff has a MASTERS
DEGREE! This is exciting! This says that HEP
of Texas has highly educated and experienced teachers. I
dare say that very few homeschool, private, or public schools
can say that 2/3 of their faculty
is this highly educated. We have 24 teachers, 16 of whom
hold a Masters Degree! Remember when choosing a homeschool
support program, that the program will only be as good as the
teachers. The HEP teachers will provide a college
preparatory program for your children from K-12th grades.
All of our teachers are homeschool friendly (most are or were
homeschoolers) and will teach from a Judeo/Christian worldview.
The fall schedule is 99% complete with the hiring of our new
Latin/Spanish Teacher, Mr. Bill Barr. His wife, Christine
Barr, will also be joining our staff as the HS English 2 and
Drama teacher. Beth Bishop is joining the staff as our new
art teacher and will teach Computer Science on Thursdays in the
Classical School. Terri Hamiter joins the staff as our
World Geography and HS English 1 teacher; she will also teach in
the 1st/2nd grade Classical School. Sue Rothberg is
returning to HEP to teach Classical Music on Thursdays.
Janan Beckerdite joins the staff as the Marine Biology,
Tournament Speech, and Tournament Debate coach. Lisa Brown
is also returning to HEP as the Language Arts teacher on
Thursdays. Susan Ciancio will teach the science classes on
the Thursday Classical School. Lastly, Celia Crotteau
joins our English faculty as the HS English 4 (12th grade) and
MS English 8 teacher. Welcome to all of you.
Summer registration has already started. Fall 2008-9
registration will begin on June 2, 2008, at 10am at the HEP
Bookstore. Many classes will sell out quickly so be sure to
come on June 2.
Congratulations to
the following HEP students:
- Austin Cooper
- $25,000+ scholarship to the UH Honors College
- John Red
- United States Air Force Academy
- Hannah
Beckerdite - At the Regional National
Invitational Qualifier, she won 3rd place in Persuasive
speaking and qualified for the National NCFCA
Tournament; she also qualified in Impromptu Speaking.
She placed 11th in Debate and won several outstanding
speaker awards.
Be sure to
let me know if your student wins an award or other
recognition. We are proud of all of our HEP
Students!
See you soon! Have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Joanne Juren
